What is an Ileostomy?

An ileostomy is a surgical opening (stoma) created in the abdominal wall, through which the end of the small intestine (ileum) is brought to the surface of the skin. This allows waste to exit the body into an external collection pouch.

Why is an Ileostomy Performed?

Types of Ileostomy

End Ileostomy

Living with an Ileostomy

Daily Care

1. Regular pouch emptying (4-6 times daily)
2. Careful cleaning of the stoma
3. Skin care around the stoma site
4. Regular pouch changes (every 3-7 days)

• Avoid foods that may cause blockage
