What is Phlebitis?

Phlebitis is inflammation of a vein, often accompanied by blood clot formation (thrombophlebitis). When it occurs in superficial veins near the skin's surface, it's called superficial thrombophlebitis.

Common Symptoms

• Redness along the vein
• Warmth and tenderness
• Firm, cord-like swelling
• Pain or discomfort
• Mild fever in some cases

• Blood clotting disorders

• Pregnancy

• Recent surgery
• Prolonged immobility
• IV catheter use
• Trauma to the vein
