What is Prostatitis?
Prostatitis is inflammation of the prostate gland that can cause pain, urinary problems, and other symptoms. It affects men of all ages but is most common in those between 30-50 years old.
Types of Prostatitis
1. Acute Bacterial Prostatitis
- Sudden onset
- Caused by bacterial infection
- Requires immediate treatment
- Most severe but easiest to diagnose and treat
2. Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis
- Recurring infection
- Similar but less severe symptoms than acute form
- May persist for months
3. Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CP/CPPS)
- Most common form
- No identified infection
- Symptoms may come and go
4. Asymptomatic Inflammatory Prostatitis
- No symptoms
- Usually discovered during other tests
